  • Location: Ruaha National Park is situated in central Tanzania, covering an area of approximately 20,226 square kilometers (7,809 square miles). It’s part of the larger Rungwa-Kizigo-Muhesi Ecosystem, which extends beyond the park’s boundaries.
  • Landscape: The park’s landscapes are characterized by a mix of rolling hills, open savannas, rocky escarpments, riverine forests, and the Great Ruaha River, which is a lifeline for wildlife during the dry season. The varied terrain creates diverse habitats that support a wide range of wildlife species.
  • Wildlife: Ruaha National Park is renowned for its impressive diversity of wildlife. The park is home to a significant population of elephants, as well as lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, antelopes, and more. The park’s location at the interface of eastern and southern Africa leads to a unique blend of species from both regions.
  • Birdlife: Ruaha is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 570 bird species recorded. Bird enthusiasts can spot raptors, waterbirds, and a variety of other avian species along the rivers and in the park’s different habitats.
