When did NAM start?

NAM began on April 15, 1955, in Bandung, Indonesia. Leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru of India, Sukarno of Indonesia, and Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt started NAM to give countries a place where they could do their own thing without being pushed around by big countries.

Why does NAM exist?

NAM’s main goal is to help countries stay in the middle during the Cold War. At that time, there were two big groups of countries – one led by the United States and the other by the Soviet Union.
