5 Day through the Rift Valley This is a short but extremely rewarding safari as it allows visitors to gain a firsthand experience of the Great Rift Valley and the vast game-rich plains of the Maasai Mara. The Rift Valley lakes are famous for their abundance of flamingos and other waterfowl, while Maasai Mara is home to the country’s greatest concentration of wildlife.
Here’s what you can expect from each destination:
Maasai Mara National Reserve:
- Key Attraction: The Great Wildebeest Migration is the most famous event in Maasai Mara. Witnessing the vast herds of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles crossing the Mara River is a breathtaking experience.
- Wildlife: Maasai Mara is home to the “Big Five” and offers excellent opportunities to spot lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos, and rhinos. It also boasts an impressive diversity of other wildlife, including cheetahs, giraffes, hippos, and various antelope species.
- Maasai Culture: Interact with the Maasai people and learn about their traditional way of life and unique customs.
Lake Nakuru National Park:
- Key Attraction: Lake Nakuru is famous for its large population of pink flamingos that gather along its shores, creating a breathtaking pink spectacle. The park is also home to both black and white rhinos.
- Wildlife: Besides flamingos and rhinos, you can spot various other bird species and wildlife, including lions, leopards, buffalos, and giraffes.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Arrival – Nairobi
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International airport, 5Day through the Rift Valley you will be met by African Holidays staff and then be moved to La Maison Royale hotel for check in and remainder of the day at leisure. While, optional dinner will be at an extra cost, at a local restaurant.

Day 2: Nairobi – Nakuru
Meanwhile you’ll have breakfast at your hotel, check out and then drive through the cool Rift Valley environment towards Nakuru. Arrive at your hotel in time for lunch. Thereafter,5Day through the Rift Valley proceed for an afternoon game drive at Lake Nakuru National Park.
In other words, the Park is small with over 50% of its area is covered by the Lake. Located in the middle of the Rift valley, Lake Nakuru has a wide variety of animals which includes the Rothschild Giraffes, Lions, White and Black rhinos as well as the Leopards.
However, all these can be spotted depending on your luck. The park is also considered by birdwatchers as an ornithological paradise. A myriad of both Greater and lesser flamingoes has made this lake their home.

Day 3: Nakuru – Maasai Mara
Afterward an early morning breakfast,5Day through the Rift Valley you’ll leave the flamingo fringed Lake Nakuru behind and then head southward to travel towards Narok, the gateway to the Maasai Mara and district base of this part of Maasai land.
You’ll travel across the “breadbasket” of Kenya, covered with acres of wheat and barley, before you reach the Mara in time for lunch. Following lunch and a siesta, there is an afternoon game drive returning to the camp as the sun sets.

Day 4: Maasai Mara
Afterward your breakfast at the camp, you’ll have a full day spent in the park with packed lunch, in search of its liked residents like the well-known predators and their opponents like the Zebra, Wildebeest, Giraffe, Hippo and the risky Crocodiles with a visit to Mara river.
Meanwhile, 5Day through the Rift Valley in the late afternoon on your way back to the camp, you’ll visit a Maasai village and a school at an Extra Cost. Then later in the evening, you may take a walk with the resident camp naturalist.

Day 5: Maasai Mara – Nairobi
Afterward your breakfast, you’ll depart the Maasai Mara and head across acres of rolling wheat and barley farms to Narok, the district base of this part of Maasai land. From here cross the vast plains on the floor of the Rift Valley whilst keeping an eye out for herds of giraffe and gazelle before heading up the rift cliff on a road built by Italian prisoners during World War II.
Finally,5Day through the Rift Valley you’ll arrive into Kenya’s bustling capital around mid-day and be dropped off at the airport or a city Centre hotel(booked on request at an additional cost).
